Ann Curry

Ann Curry, an American photographer and journalist who has covered wars and natural disasters for nearly 45 years. Her focus is on the human suffering suffered by people living in these regions. Curry has covered the wars in Kosovo Iraq Syria Lebanon Palestine Afghanistan Darfur Congo and the Central African Republic. Ann Curry was an American journalist, TV news reporter and host best recognized as a correspondent on the Today program which is a morning-time broadcast news program aired on NBC. Curry was renowned for her reporting on natural catastrophes and war devastated countries. Curry's father was a naval officer with the U.S. Navy and her mother was Japanese. Her parents met while her father was stationed in Japan following World War II. As a result of her father's military service her family has moved quite a bit. Curry completed high school within Ashland Oregon. After graduating from University of Oregon, Curry received a bachelor degree in journalism in 1978. When she was a young woman, she was exposed to various cultures. The compassion she displays towards global affairs may be a result of her experiences. The couple relocated frequently so Curry did not remain in the same school for over two years. She traveled extensively to locations including San Diego Alameda Oregon and Virginia. Her final graduation was in Ashland the high school. In Medford the following year, she began her broadcasting career at KTVL Channel 10 as an intern. At the age 22, she became the station's first female reporter. After that, she moved to reporting and anchoring at KGW, an NBC-affiliated station in Portland. The following year, she relocated to Los Angeles as a reporter for KCBS-TV. She was awarded 2 Emmy Awards during the six years that she worked for this station.
